Two wide-eyed faces sit on opposite sides of the composition, manically staring back at the viewer. Beneath the face on the left, who wears a mischievous smile, a bottle pops open and sprays drops towards the other, open-mouthed face. An onomatopoeia describing the sound of a raspberry made with one's lips and tongue is spelled out amidst the spray.

The eyes of the figure getting sprayed on are carved in distinctly different styles from one another--the eye to the left (but what would be the figure's right eye) is carved as white outlines around shapes within the oval; on the right is a stippling of white dots concentrated towards the bottom of the eye. This asymmetry of the eyes could suggest intoxication or some altered state of mind

I made this piece during the initial lockdowns of covid, shortly after receiving my degree in Painting from KCAI. Having been booted out of campus in March due to covid, and then thoroughly studio-less after graduation anyway, I was unable to paint, and my love of printmaking was gnawing at the back of my mind. I decided to make this piece to shake the rust off and just have some fun.

The subject matter irreverently expresses some of the cabin fever and nihilism many of us experienced at that time. Its sardonic humor suggests drunken debauchery and lustiness as coping mechanisms in a time of global anxiety. Some areas in the image have a slapdash quality to their carving style, while others show restraint and control.

Printed on 6x8 Japanese Hosho paper and featuring a deckled edge on all 4 sides.
