In With The New

from $50.00

Linocut, 8x8inches, Printed by the artist on handmade Japanese mulberry paper, 2023, Edition of 20.

Part 2/2 of diptych with Out With The Old.

A ghostlike and anonymous figure feverishly pounds nails in a piece of wood in the foreground. The hammer is repeated many times, animating the image with a sense of rapid motion. The hammers and the hands holding them are superimposed over the face and elements of the background, and depicted using different styles–sometimes solid and sometimes transparent showing what’s behind them. The ghostly figure is wearing a frown of concentration and holds two nails in its mouth. Its eyes are large and wide open, glancing over its shoulder as though afraid of what’s behind it. The background is a chaotic assemblage of plywood and planks poorly slapped together with nails sticking out in all directions.
