To-Do List (Brass Tacks)

$50.00

Linocut, 8x10inches, Printed by the artist on handmade Japanese mulberry paper.

Part 1/2 of diptych with "Daydream."

A totem-like head sits inertly beside a pile of bricks in a geometrically-patterned space. Boards are nailed to the head, and otherwise there are nails, tacks, and a screw sticking out of the eyes--perhaps suggesting the head is made of wood as well, or perhaps just paralyzed. There are more nails jutting from the landscape, and rocks strewn about the ground. The nails and rocks cast shadows away from the face, and the stark contrast of the wider lines in the face make it appear supernaturally bright.

The basis of the image is inspired by an untitled acrylic painting by Philip Guston towards the very end of his life.
